Alzu uses a specially formulated mielie planting system implemented in 2006. The system comprises of a 12 row mielie planting plan, wherein each row has a width of 76 centimeters. This system allows a crop canopy to form quickly, retaining more moisture and ensuring better weed control. As an increase in foliage ensure a greater surface area it allows for more exposure to sunlight.
Cultivar trails are annually conducted on a variety of mielie strains in order to determine which strains are most adaptable to the area; provides optimum yield and quality product. These crops are managed according new and precision farming methods.
The crop farmed by Alzu provides mainly for the production of animal feeds by Alzu Feeds. Alzu Feeds is the main provider of cattle feeds for Alzu Beefmasters, layer feeds for Alzu Eggs and Game Feeds for “Care For Wild.” merely merchants; we are the custodians of a legacy, entrusted with the profound responsibility of helping to shape the destiny of a nation for generations to come.

Alzu’s Advanced Mielie Planting System
Since 2006, Alzu has implemented a specially developed mielie (maize) planting system designed for optimal crop performance. The system follows a 12-row planting pattern, with each row spaced 76 cm apart. This layout promotes rapid canopy development, which helps retain soil moisture and significantly improves weed control. The resulting increase in foliage creates a larger surface area for sunlight absorption, boosting overall plant health and productivity.
To ensure the best possible yields, Alzu conducts annual cultivar trials on various mielie strains. These trials help identify the most adaptable and high-performing varieties suited to the region’s conditions. All crops are cultivated using modern precision farming techniques to maximise efficiency, sustainability and quality.
The mielie crop forms the backbone of feed production at Alzu Feeds, which supplies high-quality feed for Alzu’s own cattle operations, layer feeds for Alzu Eggs and specialised game feeds for Care for Wild.
At Alzu, we are more than just agricultural producers — we are stewards of a legacy, committed to nurturing the land and contributing meaningfully to the future of South Africa’s agricultural sector.
